There was a segment on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago regarding the effects of the Covid virus on peoples’ ability just to eat? In Chicago alone it is estimated that there are 4.5 million people who are homeless and hungry. They are dependent upon someone else to give them a meal on a daily basis. There are children who are saying when they do receive food, “I have to give this to my brother / sister because it’s not my day to eat.” Brings me to tears.
Another sobering fact is that the first people to lose their jobs will more than likely be the last people to regain their jobs. And it is estimated that they will not regain their employment until 2024. That to me is mind-boggling. That statistic is based the type of industries that were the hardest hit… retail stores, restaurants, and the in-person entertainment industry. Believe it or not even people in the health care have lost jobs due to downsizing and telehealth.
If I have not learned anything else, I have learned that we cannot be dependent upon one revenue stream. We have to think beyond the work-a-day job world. We have to think about developing multiple streams of income.
The world truly is changing but it is not a hopeless situation. It is a situation that calls for our innovation, our creativity, flexibility, and our adaptability. We will more than survive ….we will thrive. We are resilient. But we have to think differently…
we have to proceed differently…
we have to plan differently …
we have to be entrepreneurs.
There is money in this world & plenty of it. I’m determined to learn how to make the most of my God given ability to persevere & to learn a new way of being. A new way of garnering success. A new way of defining my success.
